Troy Cable has Changed its DNS Addresses
COMPLETE As of January 1, 2010 the old DNS addresses 66.21.97.115 and 66.21.97.117 will no longer work. The current addresses are 64.130.108.21 and 64.130.108.18. This will only affect Troy Cable customers with the DNS addresses manually assigned. The preferred method of obtaining DNS addresses automatically will not be affected.
What is DNS?
When you use the Web or send an e-mail message, you use a domain name to do it. Type www.google.com into a web browser, for example, and you are taken to the google domain. Domain names make it easier for people for remember a web site, but computers communicate with IP addresses. That's where Domain Name Servers (DNS) come in. A DNS will translate the domain name (google.com) into an IP address (74.125.45.147) for you.
Why is this important?
Troy Cable is changing their DNS servers. As of January 1, 2010 the old DNS addresses 66.21.97.115 and 66.21.97.117 will no longer work. The current addresses are 64.130.108.21 and 64.130.108.18.
Does it affect me?
Domain Name Servers usually work in the background without any effort by the user. You plug your computer into the modem, and the modem automatically hands out the DNS addresses. Sometimes, however, there may be a problem preventing these addresses from being handed out correctly. A router may be faulty or an anti-virus program may conflict with automatic settings. When a problem occurs, the DNS addresses may be manually assigned.
If you are still using the old DNS addresses in 2010, you will not be able to surf the web or get your email. Please make sure your DNS is obtained automatically, or enter the new addresses manually before the due date to prevent any loss of functional service.
